When I think about women who truly walk in purpose, I think about Sergeant Maiga Auguste.
Our connection began years ago as radio personalities on 91.1. That is where I first experienced her voice, not just as a broadcaster, but as a leader. Even then, it was clear she carried herself with intention, discipline, and clarity. She did not just speak to fill time. She spoke with purpose.
Sergeant Maiga Auguste made history as the first Haitian and Black female Sergeant in the history of the Port Saint Lucie Police Department. That milestone alone says so much about her determination and resilience.
Throughout her career, she has served in multiple roles including Neighborhood Policing, the D.A.R.T. Team, Detective within the Criminal Investigations Division, Acting Sergeant, Road Patrol Sergeant, Uniform Crime Scene Investigator Sergeant, and Accountability and Accreditation Sergeant. She also became a Field Training Sergeant, helping shape future officers, and was nominated as Vice President of the Sergeant’s Union Board.
Her service has been recognized through numerous honors including Administrative Excellence Awards, Detective of the Quarter awards, Detective of the Year in 2019, a Lifesaving Citation, Commendation Citation, multiple Civic Awards, Unit Citations, and Distinguished Achievement Awards during the years Port Saint Lucie was recognized as one of the safest cities in America. She also completed the FBI LEEDA leadership trilogy, earning executive, command, and supervisory leadership certifications.
But what truly stands out to me is the work she did outside of her official title.
Through her nonprofit, G.E.M’s of the Treasure Coast, which stood for Going the Extra Mile, she created intentional spaces for women in business to connect and grow. The motto was walking into purpose by going the extra mile. And that was not just something she said. It was something she lived.
G.E.M’s hosted events that brought together women entrepreneurs from across the Treasure Coast. It was a safe place for women in our community to build among like minded business women. There was collaboration instead of competition. Encouragement instead of comparison.
As a business owner through KayyLove Management, I understood how rare that environment was. She created rooms where women could speak honestly about their goals, their challenges, and their vision without fear of being diminished.
She is also an incredible public speaker. Her presence commands attention naturally. That is why I asked her to participate in a women’s panel at the Boys and Girls Club of Saint Lucie County. I knew our youth needed to see and hear from someone who represents excellence, faith, and discipline.
One of my favorite events she hosted was the Mother’s Day Tea Party through G.E.M’s. It was elegant, thoughtful, and intentional. We learned about proper etiquette, but it was deeper than that. She brought in an amazing guest speaker and created a setting that allowed me to have an intimate and meaningful experience with my mother and grandmother.
Seven years later, my grandmother still speaks highly of that event.
That is impact that lasts.
Sergeant Maiga Auguste has always gone beyond the expected. Whether in uniform or in the community, she has consistently shown what it means to walk in purpose.
The Strength That Holds Us Together is not just about awards or promotions. It is about the example you set and the doors you open for others.
Sergeant Auguste opened doors. She built bridges. She walked into purpose and encouraged the rest of us to do the same.
And for that, I will always appreciate her.

This is so wonderful! What an inspirational story! Thank you for sharing & lifting our sister up! She is truly a G.E.M.
