Heart Attack Survivor Aims to Bring Awareness to Heart Health with First Annual Gala

At the age of 41, Hyvelle Ferguson-Davis experienced a devastating heart attack and stroke that shook her world. Faced with this life-altering event, she made a firm decision to not become another statistic. With unwavering determination, she embarked on the most challenging battle of her life - regaining control over her health. Through this journey of survival, she noticed when she walked in the medical room, too often her voice was not being heard, there were not too many people that looked like her and as she became educated in the preventive measures of how to prevent health crisis. This is when she realized: had she been given this information before her heart attack and stroke, maybe things would have been different for her. And... so... Heart Sistas was founded.

Recognizing the importance of raising awareness and funding for such causes, she decided to take action. In her journey towards recovery, Hyvelle found solace in creating a support and resource group that provides a safe haven for other individuals faced with similar circumstances. Thus, her nonprofit organization Heart Sistas was born. A non-profit organization dedicated to heart health and awareness. Heart Sistas is a 501(c)3 community-based organization that is committed to raising awareness and advocacy, while meet the community where they are and providing access to accurate health information, and offer meaningful engagements and resources within under-served and under-represented communities, specifically African-American women and women of color historically marginalized and often need to overcome the additional challenges of systemic racism and sexism, other health inequities.

In her pursuit of recovery, Hyvelle found solace in connecting with others who had gone through similar experiences. She discovered the power of community support and realized that there were countless individuals out there battling their own heart-related challenges. Inspired by this newfound sense of camaraderie and driven by her own personal journey, Hyvelle decided to make a difference in a BIGGER and more innovative way.
